Golf to Launch in 2025

NB Thunder will add a golf program to its portfolio of offerings to area homeschool students, the nonprofit organization announced Wednesday.
The offering will be open to homeschooled boys and girls to participate interscholastically this semester. The addition of both the boys’ and girls’ golf programs grows the third-year organization to a total of nine sports.
“There is just an unprecedented amount of demand for athletics among the homeschool community,” NB Thunder executive director Laura Force said. “We are truly humbled to have delivered such a needed opportunity to our community and watch it grow so quickly.”
The true architect behind satisfying the homeschool arena’s demand for golf is its new program commissioner and head coach, Alex Strenge.
“I have a passion for golf and believe that it is a great sport that teaches invaluable lessons throughout all seasons of life,” Strenge said. “The game stretches your imagination and self-discipline, your joy, patience and ability to deal with adversity, both self-inflicted and random. It makes you tougher, and it’s just plain fun.
“We want to focus on the fun part, the learning part,” he continued. “The rest just comes along as a bonus. And it’s a great way to spend four hours outside enjoying the glory of God’s creation.”
Strenge and his wife, Jenny, reside in Seguin where they raised three children. The youngest of those three, Jackson, will play for the Black and Teal. His middle child, Cole, was a standout golfer at First Baptist Academy in Universal City and will contribute on the coaching side as well.
For those interested in more information, the best avenue will be to attend the program’s introductory meeting, tentatively set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Families are invited to Landa Park Golf Course to meet Coach Strenge, learn more about the program, and go to the driving range. The group will meet again on Tuesday, January 14, to play its first round together.
NB Thunder currently serves roughly 200 families throughout Comal County and the surrounding areas. For more information, please call (830) 433-7467, or email us at golf@nbthunder.org.
