Baseball dominates Mulch Madness

Dozens of NB Thunder players, coaches, and parents distributed more than 1300 bags of mulch at Builders FirstSource on Saturday, bringing the organization’s first Mulch Madness to a close.
The beans are still being counted, but it appears that NBT will net almost $10,000 as a result of the collective effort.
“What a great experience this was for our first time out,” said Thunder Executive Director Laura Force. “Now that it is established, we hope to grow this event exponentially. As participation across the sports grows, we want to use this campaign to completely fund the administrative budget and still provide excess funds for each of the programs for years to come.”
The Thunder baseball program was far and away the campaign’s winner. The varsity squad led all teams with $3696 raised, followed by the MS baseball troop with $2716.
By implementing a family strategy, the Poseys climbed to the top of the donation ladder, collecting $1471 from 13 different supporters. Football and baseball star Knox Taylor was the top solo fundraiser, pulling in an impressive $1300 from six donors. Laura Force ($854), Zack Bilbrey ($846), and Josiah Bilbrey ($780) rounded out the top five.
One of the sales tactics employed by the top fundraisers was offering to spread the mulch they sold for the buyer. As a result, they leave behind a trail of happy customers who are likely to purchase again next spring.
All of the families in the top five earned gifts from the prize pool for their efforts, and the baseball program will have all of its organizational-level fees covered for next season.
