NB Thunder girls volleyball players launched their 2025 season with a pre-season retreat hosted for the second year in a row at the beautiful Lone Oak Retreat Center. This special event, made possible through the generous donation of the space by Disciple Daily, brought together all six girls teams for a full day of fun, fellowship, and foundational truths.
The retreat is the result of months of thoughtful planning, led by Varsity Black mom Lexi Clayton. This year began with small-group breakfasts hosted in various team families’ homes. Over cinnamon rolls, bacon, and orange juice, the girls answered lighthearted icebreaker questions before heading to the retreat center, where they introduced each other in a large group setting. We learned everything from celebrity crushes to dream vacations and favorite cars — and we welcomed players who’ve been with Thunder for four years as well as those brand new to our program.
This year’s theme was foundation — specifically, our foundation in Christ. At NB Thunder, we want every player to know that our program is intentionally rooted in the peace, purpose, and freedom that comes from life with Jesus.
We were especially grateful to have Nola Bishop as our retreat speaker. Nola, who joins our coaching staff this season, is also a beloved leader at T Bar M Camp. Through two engaging sessions, she led the girls through Ephesians 3:14–20 and Philippians 2:1–5, encouraging them to live with humility, unity, and a deep awareness of God’s love for them.
In addition to Nola’s sessions, the day included small group discussions, “Timeouts” with practical coaching talks on topics like gratitude, being coachable, and being a great teammate, and of course—plenty of time for fun. The girls swam, played volleyball and ping pong, and relaxed with teammates old and new.
We are so thankful to everyone who made this day possible:
Lexi Clayton, for her faithful leadership and coordination
All of the moms who helped host and support the event
Disciple Daily, for blessing us with their space again this year
