NB Thunder Varsity Baseball exploded for 13 runs in the third inning to power past Somerset Academy, 19-6, on Tuesday February 17th in San Antonio.
The Thunder offense came alive in the third, sending waves of runners across the plate. Coleston Posey started the rally with a two-run single, followed by Sam Mooney driving in a run with a base hit. Evan Wanders tripled to score two more, while Noah Bilbrey added an RBI single. Justin Rusick delivered a two-run double, Dawson Posey knocked in two with a single, Mooney drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, and Connor Weyhenmeyer capped the inning with a two-run single.
NB Thunder set the tone early. In the top of the first inning, an error brought home two runs before Wanders and Bilbrey each added RBI singles to extend the lead. The Thunder added on again in the second when Dawson Posey drew a walk and Mooney singled down the left field line, each driving in a run.
Justin Rusick earned the win, allowing five hits and five runs (four earned) over one and two-thirds innings while striking out two and walking two. Noah Miller collected the save for NB Thunder.
The Thunder finished with 14 hits on the day. Evan Wanders led the team with three RBIs from the number seven spot in the lineup, going 2-for-2. Coleston Posey, Dawson Posey, Noah Bilbrey, Connor Weyhenmeyer, Wanders, and Mooney each tallied two hits.
NB Thunder also showcased aggressive baserunning, with Noah Miller and Justin Rusick swiping multiple bases as part of seven total steals. The team showed patience at the plate as well, drawing seven walks in the victory.
